Golden Valley takes pride in its extracurricular programs. From Ukulele Club and creative writing to basketball, volleyball and tennis, GV students have a wide range of activities to choose from.

New programs are added based on student and parent interest.

Basketball

Grades: Boys and Girls in 6,7,8th grades, 2 teams each.

Must keep a certain GPA average to play. Basketball begins to take shape in October with student registration and parents meeting. The coaches and athletic director speak to the player’s parents about expectations, goals, and the schedule.

Practice: Begins in November. Practice takes place at the Orchard school MP room. Monday and Wednesday 3:30-5 PM for girls

Tuesday 3:30 pm-5 Thursday 1 PM- 2:30 boys. The boys coach can opt out of the Thursday practice and hold practice Friday 3:30- 5 PM instead.

Games: Held at Sacramento Waldorf School on Saturdays and start right after Winter break. The season ends the week of February break with a players’ tournament at Sacramento Waldorf School.

End of season: at the end of the season there is an alumni basketball game for current and passed players held at Sacramento Waldorf School.

Uniforms: Each player will get a uniform at the beginning of the season and return it after the alumni basketball game.

Fees: $100 per player

Head Coach

Grades: 6,7,8th grade girls 4 teams (or less depending on amount of players)

Must keep a certain GPA to play. Volleyball is run through OV Parks and Rec but we hire our own coaches. The coaches often offer an open gym throughout the summer. Practice begins right as school starts.

Practice: MP room Orchard. Two teams practice on Monday and Wednesday 3:45 PM-5:30 PM the other two teams will practice on Tuesday 3:45 PM- 5:30 PM and Thursday 1 PM-3 PM. Coaches will communicate which team practices when. Teams are formed by age and skill level not by class. No tryouts.

Games: Held at La Sierra Community Center. OV Parks and Rec sets the game schedule and give it to the athletic director and coaches.

End of the season: Coaches hold their end of season party in October

Uniforms: OV Parks and Rec supplies a T-shirt and parents purchase shorts and knee pads.

Fees: $100 per player

Cross Country

Cross Country

Grades: 6,7,8th grades boys and girls 1 co-ed team. Competition is girls vs girls. Boys vs boys

Must keep a certain GPA average to practice and compete

Practice: Monday and Wednesday 7:30 AM- 8 AM River Staff parking lot. Students run 2 miles +- per practice.

Meets: Held on Saturdays within the greater Sacramento area

Uniforms: will happen!

Fees: $100 per player

Juggling Club

Promoting artistic healthy and skillful movement activities appropriately to students who are interested in developing those skills.

Grades: 10 years old and up max 25 students

Club Meets: Fridays 3:30Pm- 5 PM River MP Room starts September 2 – end of school year. Will not be held during holidays.

Fee: $25

Ukulele Club

To learn how to play the Ukulele and perform.

Grades: 3-8th (beginner, intermediate, and advanced groups formed)

Ukulele Club (Beginning) – Learn and practice beginning ukulele skills

Basic Chords
Playing familiar songs
Thursdays from 1:00-1:30pm

Ukulele Club (Intermediate) – For members who have mastered the beginning skill set
Play songs: folk, blues, rock, pop, and classical
Learn new chords and techniques
Learn fingerpicking and how to read tabs
